The major advantage of our S.S.T Porting is maximum air flow improvement from .100” to .575” valve lift. The area below .575” lift is the most critical for engines running a flat tappet camshaft. S.S.T Porting is perfect for this type of an application. Our S.S.T Porting includes CNC machined intake port openings, intake bowls, exhaust bowls and combustion chambers. The valve guides are honed for proper clearance for your application and the final valve seat size is machined. The heads are flow tested and a flow data sheet is supplied with each set of heads.
Tech Note: Porting the heads too much or running a head that is larger than the application needs will make the car go slower, not quicker. In order to achieve a measurable 10 to 20 cfm improvement in the intake air flow over .575” lift a larger valve is needed and the intake port cross-sections are enlarged. Certainly, this will help a car running a roller camshaft with over .600” valve lift turning 7,500 + rpm. But it will be a disaster on a 3,200 lb car with a .530” lift flat tappet camshaft. If you are running a camshaft with well over .600” lift and turning the motor in the 7,500 rpm range, our CNC Sportsman Porting is the way to go. For all other applications the S.S.T Porting will be a huge torque and horsepower advantage over the competition.
